I’ve never been golfing. If a friend brings me, what am I supposed to wear?

I took this answer from yahoo..=D
Some courses have their own SPECIFIC dress codes and will not let you on the first tee if you are in violation. I recommend calling ahead to ask if you’ve never played a particular course before to avoid any chance of this happening.
That said, you should be fine with the following guidelines:
Shoes – golf shoes are available, but there are differing opinions on if you really NEED them or not. Some believe the small spikes on the bottom really help you keep your balance (among other benefits), while others feel a comfortable pair of any type of athletic shoe would suffice.
Shirt – most courses require at least a collared shirt. A polo is fine, tucked or untucked. No rips or tears, of course.
Pants – No denim! Khakis or dress pants are standard. Shorts are usually fine during the hottest months.

I go golfing all the time. The dress code or appropriate attire depends on what type of course you are playing on. If you’re playing on a municipal course, you can pretty much wear anything you want. However, there are some municipal courses that definitely do have dress codes. If you’re playing at a private country club setting, you should aim to dress exactly how professional golfers dress. Wear a collared golf shirt and wear some nice slacks. Just in my own personal opinion, I always feel it is good to wear a white cap or visor because it is quite helpful for blocking out the sun.

If you’ve never been golfing the other golfers wont notice your clothes as much as they will notice you cant play. Go to the driving range for a month then play the par 3 course ten times before you try a real course. By then you will know how to dress.
