what would be a good score in golf for nine holes?

I’ve been golfing for quite a while now id say 7, 8 years and i don’t seem to be improving the way i should be. I’m on the golf team for my high school and at our country club (a par 37 front nine) i average a 42. I just can’t seem to break 40. Is 42 a good average score or am I just bad?

Fine tune. Know the thing that is weak in your game. Low 40s is excellent for average but you are right cause you are consistent so maybe chipping, or putting. There is an old saying in golf. Never up never in. If that is you? Then work on your short game and putting. Make more 1 put greens. Good Luck for you.

i would say:
Very bad golfer= 25+ Handicap
Bad Golfer= 18-24 Handicap
Average Golfer= 10-18 Handicap
Good Golfer= 4-9 Handicap
Great Golfer= 0-3 Handicap
Exceptional Golfer= Any + Handicap
So looking at your score of 42 on a par 37 thats 5 over par, so about a 10 handicap. An Average Golfer. It also depends on the difficulty of your country club.

42 is a great score, especially in high school. I’m sure you’ve heard it, but the more practice, the better. It’s also important what you practice. After your next nine, make some evaluations. What shots need work? I shoot in the 80s on average and most of the time it’s on/around the green. Putts I didn’t make, chips that weren’t as close as I would have wanted. You have to keep at it without a doubt, but results will come.

over 90% of all amateur players shoot over 100 on a regular golf course. 42 is good, and if you keep at it and find the ways to trim a few strokes off you might be able to bring it down even more. Its easier to shave ten strokes from your average like when you first started, then to start shaving two strokes after you’ve been playing a while. Once you have your mechanics down, its a matter of execution, and that takes considerable concentration, and a fair amount of repetition.

42 is awesome for your level. Stick with it.
